Marriage is one of the greatest gifts God has given to mankind.
It was God’s idea from the beginning, and when it is built according to His principles, it becomes a source of joy, strength, companionship, and fulfilment, yet many people who sincerely desire a happy marriage enter it without adequate preparation.
Some are guided by emotions rather than wisdom. Others are driven by pressure from family, age, society, or personal desires.
Many spend years preparing for careers, businesses, and academic pursuits, but spend very little time preparing for marriage, even though marriage is one of the most important decisions they will ever make.
The truth is that, a successful marriage does not begin on the wedding day. It begins long before the wedding.
It begins in the decisions you make, the values you build, the character you develop, the counsel you receive, and the relationship you cultivate with God.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of counselling many young men and women, singles, engaged couples, and married people.
I have seen relationships that blossomed into successful marriages, and I have also seen relationships that ended in pain because important matters were ignored during the courtship stage.
Many of the challenges people face in marriage today could have been avoided if they had received the right guidance before saying, “I do.” Some ignored red flags. Some were unequally yoked.
Some were led by physical attraction alone. Others neglected issues of purpose, character, family background, health compatibility, spiritual maturity, and God’s direction.
This is why the Journey from Single to Married series has been prepared. It is a five-book series designed to help young people move from singleness towards marriage with wisdom, prayer, purity, character, discernment, and responsibility.
However, the teachings are connected. For a fuller understanding of the journey from singleness into a peaceful, godly, and successful marriage, every reader is encouraged to get and read all five books in the series.
